Aldeburgh Carnival Pairs 2016 - Results

After 20 teams having entered and playing 3 qualifying games each, we whittled it down to the semi-finalists as follows;

Martin Inglis & Pete Sharkey (Eels Foot) v Paddy Rosseau & Mark Adamson (Parrot)
Mike & Martha Rios-Hall (Eels Foot) v John Benford & Sian Hart (Leiston Engineers)

It was not to be an all Eels final as Mark & Paddy edged their game whilst Mike & Martha got through in their game.

So settling down to the Final, Mike & Martha played some nice boules but the pair of Parrots proved too strong on the day and very quickly reached 13 points without reply (just like the 2015 Final when a couple from Bressingham defeated Aldeburgh 13-0)

Congratulations Mark & Paddy, well done to Mike & Martha, a big well done to John & Sian who are proving that Leiston are a force to be reckoned with. Thanks to all who attended and took part, especially players who had come down from Manchester and up from Essex & Buckinghamshire.

Adnams Coastal Petanque League versus Nottingham City PC - Saturday 18th June

Seventeen League players, including 3 juniors, travelled to Sherwood on Saturday to take part in a Challenge Match versus our hosts, the Nottingham City Petanque Club.

Playing as pairs on just 8 of their 30+ pistes, four rounds of matches were played. Everything was so evenly matched between the two teams, that the final match score was a 16-16 draw, with Nottingham just shading it on points 315-295.

We had 4 of our teams achieving 3 wins from 4, including Kira, but overall Lewis Fletcher & Seb Rios-Hall were our best pair on the day.

Some great new friends were made and Simon made the offer, on behalf of Suffolk, for our Mercia friends to come to Suffolk next season.

Please visit our Facebook page to see photos of the day and the presentations at the end of the day.

This coming weekend, 28th, 29th, 30th May sees us reach the halfway point of the league programme (already I hear you say!!).

Therefore to gauge whether you are up-to-date or behind in your fixtures, please use the following guide as an indicator;

In a 5 team League
You should be completing your 4th match by this week

In a 4 team league
You should be completing your 3rd match by this week

In a 3 team league
You should be completing your 3rd match by this week

There are a few outstanding matches according to the League Results Officers fixture lists, but these may have been played but the scorecard hasn't been sent in yet. If that is the case, can you please forward the relevant scorecard(s) as soon as possible.

Funny That.....

Funny that I put up messages and info on this Blogsite, inviting comment, debate, response etc and very little happens.

When I turn my focus to other methods of Social Media interaction to put out info etc, several people have asked whether I still use this site as they regularly check it and there is nothing more recent on it!!!

If you don't comment on stuff, I don't know you are looking at it!!

First Event of 2016 - Aldeburgh are Unofficial World Champions believe it or not!!!!

Fifteen triples battled out the ''Boules Rimet Trophy'' at the Parrot & Punchbowl earlier today, ushering in the new 2016 season with a friendly natured and well contested tournament, run by Jeff Short of the White Lion Aldeburgh.

Triples had to nominate a country they were representing and the event saw Japan, Honduras, Colombia, Canada, Faroe Islands, Estonia, Tuvalu, Central African Republic, Ghana, Barbados, Ireland amongst others take part.

It was a straight knockout competition but each triple had nine boules each. The first round was played to seven points, quarter-finals to 9, semi-finals to 11 and the World Final played to 13 points.

Despite the iffy weather and a short opening ceremony, the competition got underway. The match between Japan and Estonia was completed in four ends and following a 7-1 defeat, one of the Japanese players was immediately transferred to Barbados to make up the third player in their team.

The semi-finals saw Jamaica defeat New Zealand whilst over on the other piste Turkmenistan lost heavily to the newly proclaimed independent state of the  ''Peoples Republic of Aldeburgh Town'', consisting of Bev & Rob Wheeler and Jeff Short.

A long final saw PRAT go to a 6-0 lead, only for Jamaica to peg things back to 6-6, then gradullay Jamaica pulled into a 12-8 lead but some needed good pointing saw Aldeburgh come from behind and win the final 13-12.

The Boules Rimet Trophy was handed over with Bev subsequently doing a random lap of honour around the beer garden, whilst being doused in champagne by the Jamaican trio (the Rolling Stones team from Aldeburgh in disguise).

A good fun way to kick-off 2016. Thanks to Jeff for organising and Sheila and staff at the Parrot for being such good hosts as always.

Adnams Coastal Petanque League versus Nottingham/Mercia - Saturday 18th June 2016

Further to discussions earlier this year and the announcement at the 2015 Grand Finals Day, we are excited to announce that we have arranged a challenge match versus Nottingham City Petanque Club and possible other members of the newly formed Mercia Petanque Association on Saturday 18th June 2016.

This date has been selected to avoid any clashes with the England football teams fixtures at Euro 2016 (so you don't need to go scurrying for your diaries!!).

Those of you that indicated your initial interest at Grand Finals Day will be contacted shortly, as you will be given first option on taking part.

The cost to play will be £5 per person but you'll need to make your own way up to the pistes at Nottingham.

At present we haven't decided upon the total number of players that can take part, but we'd expected around 20 to 24 players per team.
