There may be an opportunity for the League to take a group of players up to Scotland for a two day trip with a one night stop-over at the end of the season, including a match against one of the clubs up there.
The trip would be similar to the Belgium/Holland trips in as much as we'd hire one, possibly two, mini-buses and travel up early on Day 1, have an overnight stop, play match on Day 2, with a return to Suffolk late that same day.
Costs would be a share of the minibus & petrol costs plus the cost of a room at a Travelodge or somewhere similar.
It's only in preliminary stages at the moment but if you'd be interested in partaking please let me know asap.

3rd Annual Moules & Boules, White Lion, Aldeburgh
Saturday 20th July
Fifteen teams battled out the running of the 3rd annual Moules & Boules Charity Pairs tournament, hosted by The White Lion Hotel, Aldeburgh.
The competition was open to everyone with entry fees being donated directly to the East Anglian Air Ambulance Fund and Aldeburgh United Charities Trust.
Using a format consisting of completing seven ends per match, every team played two qualifying matches with the best 8 teams progressing to the knock-out stages. From this process, the four semi-finalists consisted of Rob & Bev Wheeler (Wentworth Hotel Aldeburgh), Nick Holt & Ray Booth (Snape), Paddy Rosseau and Mark Adamson (Parrot & Punchbowl Aldringham) and Jeff & Jean Short (White Lion Aldeburgh & Hollesley Shepherd & Dog).
Jeff & Jean ended victorious in the Final over Rob & Bev, whilst Paddy & Mark gained third place overall in the 3rd/4th place play-off.
The Shorts became the third different pair to win this event and will be hoping to defend their title again next year when the competition hopes to expand to 32 teams.

Congratulations are in order
Unless there is a whole load of results that I haven't received backed at Petanque HQ, according to my reckoning and checking with the detailed info that is on the league table link, due to their 2-2 draw with the Crown Inn Snape last Sunday, the Parrot & Punchbowl have secured the 2013 Oyster Division title by virtue of being 5 points clear of both second and third place teams, with just two league matches left each in this division.
This will mean that as a divisional winner, the Parrot will be seeded somewhere between 1 and 9 and will not face another divisional winner in the First Round of the League Play-Offs in September.
Well done to Debbi and her team and the support that Sheila and the pub gives to the team.

LEAGUE
Bit of a topsy-turvy weekend as three divisional leaders lost, two of them losing to the teams that were bottom of their respective groups at the time. The significant fact about the Dolphin Thorpeness losing was that they were the only team still in with a chance of finishing the league season with a full 100% record, as all the other divisional leaders have at least lost once or drawn in previous matches. Makes it all very interesting come the end of the season, when we move into the play-offs!!
