Boules In The Park 2010

Earlier this week we had a very good meeting with Team Ipswich & Ipswich Borough Councils Parks Dept, regarding our proposed 'Boules In The Park' event, scheduled for Sunday July 25th.

Having obtained two Funded Grants to stage this event in Ipswich, we outlined both the general principle and several of the more finer details regarding the associated details such as toilet facilities, refreshments, access, insurance etc etc.

With that in mind, we have modified our plan slightly with a much more suitable venue being suggested by us that seems to 'tick' far more of the councils boxes with respect to certain criteria.

Now is the time we really need you to step forward and help us out. We are looking for volunteers (holding a current CRB certificate or similar Safeguarding document). Anybody with First Aid training would be also duly welcomed.

Personally I can't do this all on my own and it's time for you all to give something back to the league. Remember it could lead to more teams and more permanent facilities being established within our local area.

Thorpeness Dolphin 'net' league point at Snape

In the Deben Division of this seasons Coastal League, the Dolphin Inn from Thorpeness made the relatively short journey down the Suffolk coastline, for their encounter with the Golden Key Snape.

Thorpeness had yet to win a single game in their two matches to date but put in great effort and battled to a high-creditable 2-2 draw, against a Snape side who themselves are chasing for the Divisional title this season, trying to keep pace with Mill Inn Aldeburgh.

Double 'raid' by Vikings

Deben Vikings completed a busy weekend for them in the Orwell Division of the Suffolk Coastal Petanque League with a 4-0 Sunday home win over The Turks Head Hasketon, where they came face to face with a former Viking player from last season but secured a full 4 league points in two days.

This was because on Saturday afternoon they had also achieved the same 4-0 scoreline, this time at home to Martlesham Womens Institute.

These results have moved them currently to third in the Orwell group but with still over half the season still to go.

Bramford snatch draw at Hollesley

Despite being 2-0 down at half-time in their Gipping Division match away at Hollesley Shepherd & Dog, the Bramford Cock'N'Boules team managed to earn a draw by winning the remaining two games and become only the third 2-2 draw of the entire Coastal League season.

This result still saw Hollesley at the top of the 6-team division, with Bramford one point behind them but having played one match more.

Walberswick & Cretingham in 'ding-dong' battle

In the first 'Battle of the Bells', it was hosts Bell Inn Walberswick who came out on top by recording a 3-1 home triumph over the all-female Cretingham Belles last week.

Last years silver medalists Walberswick fielded a full 8-person squad and the one game lost was by a score of 13-12. The Belles themselves were not completely overwhelmed as two of the games were 9-13 losses and they were only just outscored by 35-51.

Defending champions make good start

Last years Coastal League champions, Ipswich PC '09, finally got to play their opening league match on Thursday 6th May, when they welcomed Bramford Cock'N'Boule to the Henley Stadium.

Taking advantage of the lighter evenings, both opening pairs won their matches 13-2. The third game went 13-5 in favour of Ipswich as well, and even though Bramford led 11-2 in the final game, Ipswich clawed their way back to eventually sneak the game 13-12 and secure a 4-0 result.
