New home piste for Rushmere Rugby Rollers

Orwell Division

Nick Bentley and his team, Rushmere Rugby Rollers, are changing their home piste to the Bramford Cock for the rest of the 2009 season.

This will then be their proposed home base for the 2010 season and beyond.

Good luck

Walberswick secure play-off spot

Blyth Division 22nd August

Last Saturday saw The Bell Walberswick travel to the Kings Head Laxfield for not one, but two, away fixtures in a 'double-header' against Laxfield A and Laxfield Lovelies respectively. Obviously conditions favoured Walberswick and they recorded a 4-0 win over the A team and a 3-1 triumph against the Kings Head ladies team.

These two wins put them clear at the head of the table with 8 wins from 9 matches and a total of 16 league points. Second placed Three Horseshoes North Cove have two matches left but cannot catch up the 5 point margin between them and the Bell.

Therefore its congratulations to The Bell as they have secured the Blyth Divisional title this season and will be one of the four teams contesting the End of Season Play-Offs.

The Greyhound secure their first league point

Deben Division - Sunday 23rd August

With a slightly earlier Sunday morning start, Pettistree Greyhound hosted title chasing Aldeburgh Boules Club in a Deben Division league match. On a deep gravelled area of the car park, the hosts earnt their first league point of the season with a worthy 2-2 draw. This result means that Aldeburgh will probably need to win their remaining two matches to secure the divisional title but with Snape away and Bealings at home, this will be a stiff test.

2009 End Of Season Play-Off Announcement

The official announcement of the venue and associated details for our End Of Season Play-Offs on Sunday 27th September, will be released on this website on 1st September, so please come back and check for some exciting news.

Draw specialists finally break duck

Having drawn 5 of their 7 league matches so far this season, the Royal Oak East Bergholt finally got the elusive first win of the season last weekend with a 3-1 home victory over Rushmere Rugby Rollers, in the Orwell Division of the 2009 Suffolk Coastal Petanque League.

They remain in fourth place with 2 matches left to play whilst Rushmere are sixth with 3 matches to complete before the season 'cut-off' point.

Apparently the after-match nibbles were very good as well.

And They Are Coming Into The Final Furlong!!

With the majority of teams having only 2 or 3 matches left in the 'regular' season, we take a quick look at how things are 'panning out' in each division as we near our Leagues Play-Off Day.

Blyth Division
With the Bell Inn Walberswick (12 points from 7 matches) leading the way by one point over Three Horseshoes North Cove (11 from 8), only the Harbour Inn Southwold (7 from 7) and Laxfield B (8 from 8) have any mathematical chance of catching them and perhaps being in contention for a play-off position. Walberswick & Southwold have 3 matches left whilst the others have two but a lot will depend on who plays who in the final few weeks of the season.

Orwell Division
In this section, there are probably just 3 teams left with a chance of qualifying mathematically. Hollesley Shepherd & Dog (12 points from 8 matches) lead the way but have played 2 matches more than second placed Ipswich PC '09 (10 from 6) whilst Ye Olde Coach & Horses Melton (9 from 7) are just a point behind with 3 matches left. Melton & Ipswich meet next week in a Monday night fixture, so Hollesley will be keeping fingers crossed for a draw between these two I'm sure.

Deben Division
The tightest of all 3 groups with 4 out of the 5 teams still jostling for a play-off spot, with only Pettistree Greyhound out of the running this year. Suivre Les Boules Playford (9 points from 7 matches) lead currently but only have one match left whilst second placed Bealings Exiles (8 from 6) have two still to play. Aldeburgh Boules Club (7 from 5) are tucked in third whilst newboys Golden Key Snape (6 from 6) could feature in the final shake-up.

Sunday August 16th - Forest Heath Charity Pairs

On Sunday August 16th at the world famous Tattersalls yard at Newmarket, Exning PC in association with Forest Heath District Council are hosting their annual Charity Pairs, in aid of the CLIC Sargent charity.

Several of you, like myself, met young Liam at last years event and whilst being young in years, showed great maturity in facing up to what lie ahead of him. Sadly Liam lost his fight earlier this year but meeting him has left an indelible mark on myself and others and will long remain an inspiration.

If you are looking for something to do next Sunday, log onto www.newmarketpetanqueleague.webeden.co.uk/ for further details regarding the competition and entry requirements.
